This winter is the perfect time to think about that project in that ‘difficult’ area of your property. Consider the possibilities:
1. Sloped Areas:
Do you have a sloped area that makes your yard unuseable, as this homeowner did? Our landscape architect was able to design a tiered play area for the children that included a swingset area. On the other side of the yard, a Belgard Stonegate retaining wall creates a tiered grass area with steps up to the upper patio area. The possibilities become endless!
2. No Grass:
Do you have an area that just won’t grow grass? Is the reason that your yard consists of either deep shade or unforgiving sun? Maybe you need to consider alternatives to turf in those areas. For example, In deep shade, I like to create a ‘faux’ grass area out of evergreen groundcover. Some great choices are Mondo grass, Pachysandra, Ajuga or Vinca. In full sun, maybe you need to incoporate a small patio in that area, a Zen garden, a water feature, or it becomes a place to use full sun groundcover such as Creeping Thyme with stepping stones?
